Digital Storytelling: Literacy Journey

 My Literacy Journey:

From the moment I first recognized letters on a page, my journey with literacy has been filled with curiosity, challenges, and transformation. Reading and writing have shaped the way I see the world. Looking back, I realize how crucial this journey has been in shaping my identity.

My Earliest Memory of Learning to Read and Write

I still remember the excitement of holding my first storybook, tracing the letters with my tiny fingers, and sounding out words with my parents’ encouragement. The colorful illustrations brought the story to life, but it was the understanding of the words that truly fascinated me. When I was four, my mom loved buying interesting practice exercises to help me recognize words. One that left the deepest impression on me was the number-connecting exercises, they were really fun! Along with that, I also had many nursery rhyme picture books that introduced me to new words at an early age. My parents played a big role in my early literacy development, reading bedtime stories and patiently guiding me as I stumbled through sentences. At the age of five, I was sent to kindergarten, where each student had a thick stack of vocabulary flashcards. Each card had a large word printed on it, with vowels marked in red. This helped me understand vowels at a young age. Looking back these experiences shaped my love for reading and learning, making literacy an unforgettable part of my childhood.

Challenges I Met in Literacy and How I Overcome It

The journey of reading and writing has not always been easy. Sometimes, I struggle with understanding certain concepts or remembering new words, which can be frustrating. Whenever I face these challenges, I make an effort to look up words in the dictionary, explore their different meanings and usages, and write them down. Even now, learning new vocabulary remains a challenge for me. However, I believe that with perseverance and practice, I can continue to improve.

Additionally, I have found that reading a variety of books, ranging from storybooks to novels and even news articles helps to enhance my skills. As I grow older, I no longer stick to just picture books. Instead, I explore books that encourage deeper thinking and broaden my understanding of the world.

The Role of Reading in My Life

Today, reading is an essential part of my life. It not only provides important knowledge but also teaches me how to think and analyze. Reading helps me understand more about the world and allows me to communicate and exchange information with different people. Whether I’m reading novels, staying informed through news, or reading other articles, reading continuously expands my knowledge and imagination. For me, it is a source of relaxation, inspiration, and lifelong learning.
